Chicago Intelligence Needed

The wife and I are planning an excursion to Chicago next month. We're interested if anyone has unique sites/restaurants/things to do while we're there. We'll probably knock out Wrigley and the Art Institute, but are curious if anyone has any deeper recommendations.

It's been a while since I was there, but I remember the area around Wrigley has alot of cool bars, good music, etc. Just walk around the block and you can't miss them. Before (or after) you go to Wrigley, you'll probably want to drink at least one beer at the Cubby Bear, which is directly across the street from the ballpark.

My old man and I would also go to a frightenly authentic German Bar called Laschette's Inn. It was owned by a crusty old dude named Carl Laschette, who fought in WWII (on the other side). He's probably dead by now, but the place was a solid drinking establishment, in a working class neighborhood.

Stay away from Comisky, unless you want to buy crack and/or get carjacked.

I think you're talking about the museum of science and industry. It's overwhelming in a Smithsonian sort of way, but worth the visit. They've got a real German U-boat and a coal mine, as I remember (but I haven't been there since I was 14 or so.)
